George Orwell
George Orwell wurde 1903 in Bengalen geboren. Er besuchte Privatschulen in England, diente in der burmesischen Imperial Police, arbeitete als Lehrer und Buchhandelsgehilfe, kämpfte auf republikanischer Seite im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg und arbeitete als freier Schriftsteller und Journalist.
