Kenneth Grahame wurde 1859 in Edinburgh geboren. Nach dem Tod seiner Mutter verbrachte er seine Kindheit bei seiner Großmutter in Berkshire und wurde nach seiner Schulzeit in Oxford Schriftführer bei der Bank von England. »Der Wind in den Weiden« war ursprünglich für seinen Sohn Alastair gedacht, bevor sie 1908 zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht wurde. Von Kenneth Grahame sind außerdem mehrere Sammelbände und Essays erschienen. 1936 starb Grahame zurückgezogen in Berkshire.
